BYBORRE AW19 - The Layered Edition™

The BYBORRE approach is always a layered one, starting with the design and engineering of their multi layered fabrics. This Edition embodies layering throughout the entire design process, starting from yarn, to structures, to fabrics, and ultimately the garments and how they are worn. The GORE-TEX brand and The Woolmark Company partnered capsule add another layer to this Edition through added material functionality and providing a stage for a new material. On their quest to master knit BYBORRE has introduced a new signature fabric to their textile family which adds a new weight and look to garments throughout the collection.—WHATBYBORRE launches The Layered Edition™ collection in partnership with the GORE-TEX brand and The Woolmark Company. On display in the BYBORRE showroom during Paris Men’s Fashion Week.WHENFrom the 15th till the 22th of January 2019, BYBORRE’s latest collection will be on display in their showroom.WHERESchedule a meeting at the showroom: sales@byborre.com and/or (+31)6 12 94 93 07 BYBORRE Showroom81 Rue Saint-Maur75011 ParisFranceA convoy of DS-7 Crossbacks offer an on-demand shuttle service to pick up showroom visitors. Check paris.byborre.com.—The Layered Edition™When approaching the design and construction for this Edition, BYBORRE thinks about how different layers interact, both aesthetically and functionally. The garments are designed specifically to be worn as layers over each other. Details in this approach include layered and detachable pockets, temperature regulating construction techniques, and mixing performance wovens with knits.Placement of the BYBORRE fabrics have been deliberately used in relation to their desired functionality. Heavier fabrics like the 3D™ have been used to provide warmth, whereas lighter weight fabrics like the 8-Bit™ are used in areas that require higher range of motion or which are warmer. Resulting in several different fabric coming together in a single garment. The Fundamentals have been refined, and new styles have been added to the Fundamental line up, keeping the offering versatile and relevant to be worn and layered in colder weather conditions. True to their name, the Experimentals are where the more far out explorations of the concept live, including another capsule collection with GORE-TEX product technology as well as a new partnership with The Woolmark Company. The Hybrid concept in partnership with the GORE-TEX brand has evolved to a colder climate. The pieces are built to layer and in some instances the BYBORRE fabric incorporates Merino wool to add different functionality.—Key innovations for AW19:BYBORRE’s label functions as the perfect playground to both experiment and refine material innovations and then showcase them to the world. AO3™This latest member in the BYBORRE textile family adds a new weight and look to their arsenal. The AO3™ (Attachment Only 3 Layer) is a dense 3 layer fabric with an unexpected hand and weight which was named after the technique used to create it. Like its close relative, the 3D™, this new fabric uses polyester fill yarn which in the AO3™ is fully compacted between the front and back layers, aiding to a surprising density and drape for a knit fabric. Colours, graphics, yarn choice on both front and back, along with fill density are all fully configurable on the AO3™, making this fabric decidedly elegant with an undeniably modern look.Woolmark CapsuleAs part of The Layered Edition™ Experimentals key pieces were rendered in Merino wool and stand out due to the intense Deep Blue colour used in the capsule. This uniformity is a clear statement and stark contrast against the colour explorations BYBORRE does elsewhere in this Edition. For the first time they have developed luxurious Merino wool variations of all of their signature fabrics, using wool’s inherent properties to further push functionality. Merino wool was used in tandem with GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ product technology on select styles to combine the best of all three material worlds.—PartnersGORE-TEX brand, The Woolmark Company, Santoni Shanghai, WeTransfer, DS automobiles About BYBORREBYBORRE is an Amsterdam based textile innovation studio working on the frontiers of material development, functionality and aesthetics through engineered knits. BYBORRE AW18 - Online launch

Amsterdam based knitwear innovation studio BYBORRE launches their latest textile innovations to the market with their new On-Pattern collection. Engineered from the yarn up, BYBORRE continues building on their fundamental styles and pushing the aesthetics and functionality of their signature knitting techniques to the next level. — WHAT BYBORRE launches their latest engineered knit fabric innovation to the market with their On-Pattern collection. Unlike your traditional cut-and-sew from a roll of fabric, BYBORRE’s On-Pattern pieces are designed and scaled piece by piece specifically for every garment. They applied this technique to key pieces of their evolving collection of fundamental styles. The latest BYBORRE collection, The On-Pattern Edition, is available now and shipping worldwide via byborre.com. WHENNow! WHERE https://byborre.com/ — On-Pattern edition Aiming to create the perfect dialogue between their textiles and the people who use them, BYBORRE returns to one of their initial experiments: 3D Knit On-Pattern. This technique has been applied to their evolving collection of archetype styles. After establishing a solid foundation with their Generation One collection, which focused on shape and a monochrome palette, BYBORRE evolved the styles and fabrics for their Spring/Summer 18 Core Collection. With this second collection the studio introduced their 8-Bit fabric, a jersey terry textile suitable for warmer climates, in a bold palette of colours. This year’s Autumn/Winter 18 collection showcases BYBORRE’s signature 3D knitting techniques, pushing it even further to serve the user’s needs in colder climates.— Key innovations for AW18 BYBORRE’s mission to master knit pushes them to incorporate their innovations in their range of fabrics; each constructed, designed, and produced with specific purpose in mind. Key innovations in the AW18 collection are: On-Pattern 3D Knit: Building on one of their earliest experiments, BYBORRE has maximised functionality for the garments through designing directly onto individual pattern pieces. Unlike your traditional cut-and-sew from a roll of fabric, BYBORRE’s On-Pattern pieces are designed and scaled piece by piece specifically for every garment. Design elements include targeted 3D knitting, and integrated text that speaks to the identity of the BYBORRE brand. Lightweight 8-Bit: In the SS18 season the studio introduced their 8-Bit Jersey, a double layer fabric with a smooth face and a terry back side. This season BYBORRE has expanded on the 8-Bit to create a fabric that is lighter. The Lightweight 8-Bit, with it’s soft touch and lightweight breathability, is perfectly suited as a cozy layer for a chilly day. Reversed 8-Bit: Don’t let the name deceive you; with this edition of the signature 8-Bit fabric, BYBORRE has been able to get all the functionality with a completely new look. The structure of the knit has been adjusted by reversing the yarns used on either side, and turning the fabric “inside out”. Overlap Construction: Exploring alternative methods of garment assembly, BYBORRE’s overlap construction gives their garments a signature look and accentuates the fabrics. Each piece of fabric is seamed with bias binding, then layered together to create a streamlined construction. BYBORRE SS19 - The Hybrid Edition™ Tokyo Exhibition presented by Opus Japan

Team BYBORRE travels to Tokyo to present their Spring/Summer 19 collection, The Hybrid Edition™, in partnership with the GORE-TEX brand, presented by Opus Japan. Aiming to create the perfect dialogue between people and what they wear, they recognized that performance on the streets is as much about feeling confident, looking the part and being comfortable, as it is about being sheltered from the elements and your surroundings. The Hybrid Edition™ combines BYBORRE’s latest knit innovations and construction explorations along with a capsule of garments using GORE-TEX’s INFINIUM™ fabrics. Turning lifestyles into textiles, BYBORRE is claiming comfort and performance for the urban environment.—WHATTeam BYBORRE travels to Tokyo to launch The Hybrid Edition™ collection in partnership with the GORE-TEX brand, presented by Opus Japan.WHENFrom the 17th till the 22th of September 2018.WHEREOpus Japan Gallery Point Ebisu, 1-4-7, Ebisunishi, Shibuya-ku Tokyo, Japan —The Hybrid Edition™BYBORRE and the GORE-TEX brand come together for this collection, which uses textiles as a design platform and redefines the way we think of collaborations.Comfort, protection and aesthetics play an important role for the urban environment where today’s city dweller wants to be confident that their gear is up to the task at hand. BYBORRE's 8BIT Collection (SS18) now online, with a completely renewed website!

The time is here! We’re launching the Byborre 8-Bit Collection and with it a brand new website. You can now dive deep into the fabrics that were developed for this Spring/Summer collection and shop through each of the 26 products. For this collection we worked with the warmer temperatures in mind, inspiring Byborre to use our signature knitting style and unique eye for colour to develop a beautiful, double layer jersey with a smooth face and a terry backside named the 8-Bit Jersey. Why 8-bit? The name comes from the 8 feeders that feed into our circular knitting machine which gives us ultimate flexibility to create gradients of colour within the fabrics. Each fabric is developed from the yarn up with a constant dialogue with our in-house knitting machine, crafted in our LAB and our team of knitting specialists. We’re presenting the next step in the evolution of the archetypes introduced with our Core Collection. This time continuing development on the fit and detailing like the wide range of pocket types found throughout the collection. We also introduce more defined colours and for the first time combined our signature knits with beautiful wovens, made by Majocchi in Italy. The new website now gives us the ability to tell the Byborre story through different sections like Collaborations, Dialogues, and the Store. In Dialogues you will find in depth information on each of the Byborre collections and other ways that Byborre is in constant dialogue with our community and innovations. Within Collaborations you will find photos and details of some of the collaborations with other exciting brands that we are busy with, each showing off a unique Byborre knit. The store has products from our new SS18 collection, products from our Direct Drops, along with garments from collaborations with brands like Outlier. Byborre - Generation one

Characteristic to the label are the self-developed innovative knitting techniques that bring the digital and tactile worlds together. By starting from the yarns BYBORRE discovers new possibilities. The archetypical clothing pieces convey the story about material and machine, which introduces a new approach towards fashion where the process and product are equally important. Intrigued by the circular knitting machines used in the mattress industry, BYBORRE found a way to reinvent their use. The initial research collection ‘The First Cycle’ was entirely made working with these machines. During the show not only the garments but also an animated film about the production process was shown. During last men’s Fashion Week (January 2017) in Paris BYBORRE premiered its first ready-to-wear collection titled ‘Generation One’ by way of a mobile showroom. Years of dedicated research in its 3D signature knit, with a client base consisting of some of the most established brands around, has led up to this noteworthy moment. The small selection in colours complement shape and silhouette, conveying a general minimalistic impression and drawing the attention to individual details. Recurring throughout the whole collection is BYBORRE’s own fabric, perfectly displayed in its signature scarfs. With the background of a textile design studio the label challenges the seasonal constraints of fashion and offers a refreshing take on the everyday essentials.

The New Habit x Byborre

The 800th anniversary year of the dominicans in the Netherlands was about ‘standing still, sharing and celebrating’. One of the highlights of the jubilee-campaign: the re-interpretation of the Habit, by renowned Dutch design studio Byborre. This characteristic piece of clothing – a black cloak on top of a white cloth – has looked the same for centuries. So we asked ourselves: how would it look like if we would design it in 2016, following the functions and symbolic meaning that it had 800 years ago? This meant worlds colliding for both the Dominicans and Byborre. Designer Borre Akkersdijk: ’My first thoughts on the project were very negative. I associated the Church with the abuse of trust and power. But Willem Dudok (from the agency Johnny Wonder) convinced me there was something there, and he was right: the more research we did on the Dominicans and their habit, the more excited we got. Through our conversations with Dominicans, we discovered that the brothers and sisters dominicans are about something completely different: being connected, respecting your fellow human beings as well as materials.’On the other side, there was unease as well: the Habit is ’like a second skin’ for many of the dominicans. It’s quite something to give a designer carte blanche to make changes to something that’s such an integral part of your integrity. It speaks volumes on both parties that they found the trust to make this work - and create a stunning new habit that not only sparked attention from all over the world, but also was a bearer for a much bigger story: about 800 years of dominican search for truth and meaning. When Dominicans walked the streets, they wanted to be seen as normal people, not drawing too much attention to themselves. And – ironically – this is exactly what happens nowadays, because a person in a habit is a curiosity. We wanted to go back to the essence of the message of the habit: we are one with the people around us. That is why we made an almost ‘normal’ collection. We tried to figure out both the story of the Dominicans and of the habit. Which materials do they use nowadays and in the past? How is the habit made? How do people wear it, in The Netherlands and in various parts of the world, where climate and culture is different? Borre Akkersijk: 'During our research we came across many of the themes themes we encounter often at Byborre. Themes that felt very logical to us, that are or will be part of our own collections. For example: the Dominican Order made their habits of materials that were at hand, often undyed fabrics in lighter and darker shades, for the habit and the cloak. Or all the different layers of the habit, which refer beautifully to combining a limited number of items in your wardrobe, so they’re suited for many occasions.Inspiration for the patterns came from different parts of the world. Dominicans are an international Order, the new habit needs to function everywhere in the world. This shows in the form language of the different pieces. For example, the tunic can remind you of the djellaba. We did not design the new habit for one culture specifically though, so every culture will recognize something and combine it to something personal. The collection consists of 12 pieces, which enable you to make dozens of combinations that together form a habit that suits you and your environment best.'The New Habit is everything but a fashion collection. It is the essence of a wardrobe: basically you would never again need anything else. The pieces are basic and functional, they are made with what is at hand. But if you combine them, they create their own Dominican form language, unique for every individual. The collection is intended as open source, so it can be produced locally with the fabrics that are at hand. For the Netherlands, we chose technical fabrics – water repellant and dirt reluctant – but in Africa you would use different materials and finishes more suited to the local climate.Akkersdijk: 'We’d like to see people who feel connected to values of the Dominican Order wear pieces of this collection. In this way they can share in carrying out the vision of the Dominicans: using less, living sober, being together and communicating all of this through what you wear. We also hope the project evokes discussion and inspiration, both within the Dominican Order and in the outside world, about how your appearance can be a part of your message. So far, that worked out pretty nicely.'CreditsDesign: ByborreExecutive Producer: Luke SmitsAgency: Johnny Wonder | Willem Dudok (Strategy) & Agatha Hartendorp (Account)Client: Dutch Dominican Order | Arjan Broers (Communications) & René Dinklo (Prior Provincial)Photography: Roel van KoppenhagenModel: Marc MadeleynSpecial thanks to: Ummelen & Ummelen, Sam Vis

Paris Fashion week FW17 - mobile showroom

Try to stand out during Paris Fashion Week being the new kid on the block. Newcomers don’t have it easy in their craving for attention. The conventional choice is to either opt for a showroom or have a cubicle at one of the major trade shows. We decided it was time for an alternative. As any original idea it all starts with a seemingly impossible notion, but after it marinates it defies all impracticalities. While everybody is running from show to showroom we thought we could make it a lot easier for everybody. Instead of them coming to us we could come to them, or meet somewhere in between. The space was equipped with all the necessities to welcome buyers and give them a detailed impression on our Generation One collection. The story of our textile innovation background and feel for functionality was embodied by the space. Our mobility and unique setup had surprising appeal. Next to prestiged buyers, fellow designers, street photographers, and the occasional celebrity model made their visit. Even other brands and showrooms invited us to deck out in front of their spaces. Overall the city of Paris was welcoming and gracious enough to offer us some of the most wild and unbelievable locations.
